Crystal Palace vs Wolverhampton Wanderers: prediction & betting odds 20 May 2025

The Matchday 37 Premier League clash between Crystal Palace and Wolverhampton will take place on May 20 at Selhurst Park in London. Crystal Palace vs. Wolverhampton: prediction and betting odds, statistics.

Crystal Palace

The Londoners secured a victory against Tottenham in their last outing, defeating their city rivals 2-0 away. Prior to this, the team had not won in the league for five matches, suffering two significant defeats and drawing three times. Oliver Glasner's side is positioned 12th in the standings and is unlikely to climb higher. Notably, Crystal Palace won the FA Cup on Saturday, defeating Manchester City 1-0 in the final.

  • The club has not lost in 9 of their last 11 league matches (5 wins and 4 draws).
  • No more than three goals have been scored in 15 of Crystal Palace's last 19 Premier League games.
  • The Londoners have not lost in the second half in their last six home league matches (3 wins and 3 draws).

Predicted lineup for Crystal Palace (5-3-2)

Dean Henderson – Marc Guehi, Maxence Lacroix, Tyrick Mitchell, Daniel Munoz, Chris Richards – Will Hughes, Jefferson Lerma, Eberechi Eze – Ismaila Sarr, Jean-Philippe Mateta.

Wolverhampton

Vitor Pereira's side is in 14th place in the table. The team has lost their last two Premier League games, falling to Manchester City (0-1) and Brighton (0-2) consecutively. However, before this, the club had a six-match winning streak in the league. It's also worth noting that Wolverhampton will not climb higher than 13th place but could still end up in 17th.

  • The club has not lost in 7 of their last 9 Premier League games (6 wins and 1 draw).
  • One of the teams failed to score in Wolverhampton's last four Premier League matches.
  • The club has suffered only one defeat in the second half of their last nine league matches (3 wins and 5 draws).

Predicted lineup for Wolverhampton (5-4-1)

Jose Sa – Matt Doherty, Toti Gomes, Emmanuel Agbadou, Rayan Ait-Nouri, Nelson Semedo – Marshall Munetsi, Andre, Goncalo Guedes, Joao Gomes – Matheus Cunha.

Crystal Palace vs. Wolverhampton: Match Prediction

It took the Londoners three attempts to win the FA Cup. Interestingly, this trophy is the first in the club's 119-year history. Such victories are inspiring, so Oliver Glasner's team might defeat not only Wolverhampton but also Liverpool away in the final two rounds. Moreover, the team is in excellent form, having suffered only two defeats in their last 11 Premier League matches.

Additionally, the Londoners are unbeaten in their last five home league games (3 wins and 2 draws). Furthermore, Crystal Palace has defeated this opponent in their last four meetings at Selhurst Park in London. Both teams lack tournament motivation, but the hosts are in great form and are unlikely to want to interrupt their good run at the official level.

My prediction – Crystal Palace with a handicap (0)

Betting tips 20 May 2025

Regardless of how the English Premier League season concludes for Crystal Palace, they have already reached a significant milestone—clinching the FA Cup and earning a place in European competition. Riding the emotional momentum from that success, they are capable of delivering exceptional performances. Wolverhampton Wanderers would be wise to approach this match with full focus.

However, the extra fixture may have left Crystal Palace physically and mentally drained. That scenario seems plausible. Facing Manchester City is hardly ever straightforward. Manchester City typically dominate possession, pushing teams deep into their own half and forcing them to defend for extended stretches. Crystal Palace recorded just 22% possession and managed only seven shots, but one fluid counterattack proved decisive. The only drawback is that this triumph came just three days ago—leaving minimal time to recover.

Still, we don’t expect Crystal Palace to completely write off this fixture, particularly with the opportunity to perform in front of their home fans—supporters who now regard the players as heroes. Wolverhampton Wanderers showed in their previous outing that they are vulnerable. They appeared to have the edge—playing at home against Brighton, a side with little left to fight for. Yet, individual mistakes proved fatal. Matheus Cunha was largely ineffective in attack (0.11 xG), despite registering one strong effort on target, and also contributed to defensive issues. He lingered too long on the ball near his own penalty area, failed to sense the pressure, was dispossessed, and then committed a foul inside the penalty area. That penalty ultimately became the winning goal for Brighton.

In contrast, Crystal Palace have Eberechi Eze, who has now scored in five straight matches—even when coming off the bench. That might make him even more dangerous. Add in Jean-Philippe Mateta, and consider how difficult it is to beat Dean Henderson, the standout performer in the cup final. It’s about time he was given a chance to start for England. For all these reasons, we believe the hosts are far closer to securing a win than the visitors, fatigue notwithstanding.
